News flash! This Just In…

Random Entry

I’ve been neglecting the blog a lot lately. It’s not that I have nothing to blog but every time I try to, I’d just get lazy. Work is catching up as well. Yeah I know these are all excuses but in my defense, they are valid ones…I think…

Anyway, I was in Bangkok over the weekend to attend an NVIDIA event. Nothing much to talk about since the whole trip was a little mundane. We stayed quite far from the Bangkok city center and we didn’t really have much time to roam around. This trip is also one of the very few trips that I had to share rooms with someone else.

I’ll be going to Singapore with Eileen and her parents next month. I have another trip coming up next month but I can’t confirm yet. This time, it’s to Yokohama, Japan. I’m not too sure what is there in Yokohama. I’ll see how it goes. Got to finish up this month’s magazine before I make any decisions.

This is a really short entry and like what the title says, it’s a random one. I’ll write more soon. I hope. :)

Starcraft 2 Craze

Anyone who knows me good enough will not expect something like this to come out from me. I don’t play games. Period.

However, we’ve been playing the original Starcraft pretty often for the past few weeks and as an editor of a tech magazine, I’m ashamed to say that this is my first time playing Starcraft. I’m loving it though. Better late than never. :)

I chose to play Protoss because, err… their units look damn cool. I’m still learning though.

I recently bought Starcraft 2 and I’ve been playing that ever since. The graphics are a lot nicer and althought I’ve not played on Battle.net yet, I figured I should train with the A.I.s first before challenging actual players.

I’ll need to get my home PC fixed so I can play the game at home and with Battle.net, I can play with anyone that has an internet connection. Fixing my home PC also means that I’ll need to buy some new stuff for it, namely graphics card and maybe more memory. Oh well, I’ll see how it goes.

6 Months Gone!

Damn it’s July already! What happened to the first half of the year?

The July issue is sent for print, which means I have some time on my hands to blog .

The World Cup is really getting into me these days. I know England lost 1-4 to Germany. I watched that in the office with Cheah, streaming from Astro’s site (surprisingly watchable!). He was supporting Germany and I think you can pretty much guess what happened. Yeah, Cheah being Cheah..taunting me like nobody’s business! Hahaha…

This month is going to be pretty quiet I think. No invitations to attend overseas event so far, which means everyone will be in the office wrecking havoc, in a good way. :)

Oh yeah, a new coffee shop opened right below my office and it’s the very typical (although kinda clean, making it look a little high class), Chinese style coffee shop. We’ve been having lunch there since day one and I think we’ll be having lunch there more often.

Anyway, July is a pretty exciting month (personally) and I think it’ll be a pretty busy one as well. Can’t wait! :)

New Lens

My mum came back from the UK recently and brought some goodies back.

Apparently, my uncle in Wales is a camera nut as well. He gave my mum an immaculate condition Nikon D80 with 18-55mm kit lens. That camera is now given to my cousin.

He also gave my mum a mint condition Nikon 70-210mm f4-5.6 AF lens. I claimed ownership of it. :) The lens is produced by Nikon from 1988 and discontinued in 1993. That makes it a 20 year old lens! It came with a CPL polarizer as well!

The 70-210mm is not exactly the 70-200 f2.8 I wanted but it is long enough for portraits. It’s a non-VR lens so I’ll need super steady hands when it’s at its longest focal length.

I didn’t know it was a push-pull zoom lens. I see the 70mm on the lens barrel and the 70-210mm engraving but I had no idea how to zoom it to 210mm. The aperture ring is also different from the one on my 50mm f1.8. This is the first time I had to Google for answers regarding a lens!

Now for some pictures of the lens.

That’s about it. Adios!

Updates

I’ve just added two pages to the blog, an ‘About Me’ page and a ‘Wish List’ page. It’s self explainable so I won’t go into details.

I was in Port Dickson last week for Microsoft’s media offsite event. We were put up at Avillion Port Dickson. While the hotel/chalet was nice, it was freaking hot!

All chalets are on stilts and open air bathroom. My room’s air conditioning was out I think, I wanted to open the window to sleep but the waves were too damn noisy. I ended up in a steaming hot room with no ventilation for the whole night.

The event was really good though. Microsoft always throws the best off site events! The last one in Langkawi is still one of the best trips I’ve been to since I joined the industry.

World Cup fever is on and I foresee plenty of late nights looming around the corner. I support England but I know they won’t win. Oh well.
