News flash! This Just In…

Archive for the 'About' Category

Justinkoh.net is one year old!

After paying my web hosting its annual web hosting fee, I noticed that my blog is 1 year old.  My firs post was on 30th October 2006, it’s 29th October today.  So HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JUSTINKOH.NET.

Actually I’ve had justinkoh.net for 2 years now.  The only reason I got this domain is because the “.com” version was registered by some Singaporean.  By then I realized I have to get the next best thing, the “.net” version.  I really regretted because when I was studying in England, the “.com” version was available but I didn’t register it.  1 year later, it was registered.  I didn’t know there were so many Justin Koh’s running around in the world.

The first year I didn’t do anything to justinkoh.net as I didn’t really want to blog.  I just used it’s email hosting.  It made my resume look cool.  Every time i fill in my email address, the interviewer would say, “Wow, you have a website under your name!”.  Maybe they didn’t know the web hosting could be this cheap.

The second year is when “News flash…This Just In” was born (actually it was “The life of an average guy” but I changed it).

I am not going to do a one year anniversary give away like other bloggers simply because my blog traffic is not as “congested” as theirs.  I have no money to give away stuff.

Just continue reading my blog, maybe when I have enough money from my ads, I’ll give something away next year.

Good night!

What my readers like

People out there seems to like it when I blog about my life directions, business and working stuff.  I have a few comments (comments are RARE in my blog) for entries on these subjects.  Maybe I’ll blog more on that, to increase my readership so that the RM100 web hosting fees I pay every year would not go to waste.

My family and friends prefer that I blog about my health, more specifically the condition of my back problems.  Just call me if you want to know more.  You guys have my number mah…hehe…

I never thought of staring a blog when I got this domain name.  I got it because the “.com” version of my name wass taken, and I was frustrated because I had the chance to grab it once, but I didn’t make my move.  So I settled for justinkoh.net.

I’ve been using the domain for 2 years now.  I used only the email functions during the first year, then when the blogging community got bigger, I’ve decided to join in and see what’s it like to be part of the internet, thus, The life of an average guy was born.

Anyway, I do appreciate it when people take time to read my rantings here.  Thanks guys/gals.

Justin Koh – A Formal Introduction

I noticed I have not been introducing myself to you guys. Most of you people reading my blog knows who I am personally but I think some of you guys don’t really know who I am. Well, this is an “About Me” entry.

I am Justin Koh Quo Ch’ng. Yes, I have a funny name that even me myself could not pronounce. I was born on 27th September 1983 in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. I was born in a family where my parents gave me the best and they still do.

I have a younger brother. The relationship with my brother has never been good, until recently. I don’t know why is it like that but I guess most siblings act like us when they are young. Maybe it’s because I see him only once a year since 2001. He is studying in Sydney and graduating in October 2007.

I was in Malaysia until about 6 years old, then my father brought me to this country called Papua New Guinea. I was there for about 1 year, studying in Boroko International school. I do not have much memory about that place now but I know I’ve spent a wonderful time there. I came back when I was 7, then my dad enrolled me into a chinese school, Yoke Nam. I didn’t know a single word of chinese back then and I really had a hard time coping with my studies since both my parents are English educated, heck, the teacher used English to teach me Chinese.

After 6 years in Yoke Nam, I was enrolled in to a Chinese high school, Chong Hwa Independent High School, one of the best schools in Kuala Lumpur. I spent 2 years there then I dropped out because I couldn’t cope with the studies there. I was required to repeat my second year there. I dragged my brother along as well. I still feel that he’d do a lot better if I hadn’t drag him out of the school with me.

My parents then enrolled us into a national school, Taman Yarl. It’s not the best school in town, in fact, it was one of the worst but this is the school where I meet most of my best friends. This is the school that I have memory of. This is the school that I completed my secondary studies. Most importantly, this is the school where I met the love of my life.

14th June 2000 is a date I’ll never forget. This is the day where she said “Ok”. This is the day where I am no longer single. It’s been more than 7 years now and we are still together. We’ve been through ups and downs but our love is still as sweet as it was 7 years ago.

After secondary school, I went to INTI College in Subang Jaya, where I started my degree course in Computer Science. This is also where I meet the other half of my best friends. I didn’t excel in my studies, I was just doing averagely. I was never a “perfect A” student. I managed to enrolled into University of Hull in England to do my final year.

September 2003, I went to England to pursue my studies. This is the first time where I’ll be staying alone, where I’ll be able to taste independence from my family. I have to wash my own clothes, cook/buy my own food, manage my time, money and also my studies. Despite that, I met a lot of friends in uni and they helped me in managing my stuff. I didn’t get very good results but I managed to graduate with a degree in Computer Science.

After my studies, I came back to Malaysia and worked. I worked for slightly more than 2 years in a company then I quit. I’ve had a lot of memories in my short lived work life. I’ll never forget the first day and the last day of my job.

I was diagnose with a slipped disc in my back, causing me pain shooting down the legs and difficulties in walking. I had a micro lumbar disectomy done onto my disc in August 2003, just before I leave for England. I was feeling a lot better after the surgery but the disc grew back recently, pinching on my nerves causing even more pain to my legs.

I have a lot of people caring me in my life. My family, my girlfriend and my friends. I’ll try my best to recover and I’ll try my best to pay back my gratitude to everyone who cared for me.

And that’s me, Justin Koh.

Thank you!
