Merry Christmas!

I don’t really look forward to Christmas since joining this industry because it’s always at the end of the month, my busiest period. I look forward to New Year though.

Anyway, I’d like to wish everyone a blessed Christmas and if I don’t blog in 7 days, a happy new year as well.

Now let me get back to work. :)

New Year Resolutions And A Weird Dream

While waiting for something to be done here in the office, I have a little time on my hands. I’ve just finished my daily dose of tech and automotive news on the net and have nothing much to do but wait. I might as well blog!

Christmas is coming and I foresee that I’ll be spending it with my colleagues (whoever is staying back) in the office. I can’t really help it but that’s the way it is. I won’t be talking about Christmas since it’s more or less not going to happen for me. I’ll talk about the new year.

Every year at the end of the calendar, I’ll make new year resolutions. This year, I’m keeping it simple. My new year resolution is to do everything on Gizmodo’s Most Popular Photography Hacks of 2009. I know the article is for 2009 but I’d really love to master everything on that list.

The reason why I’m doing this is because instead of making resolutions myself, I’ll let someone else to do it (in this case, Gizmodo). I love photography but currently, I’m treating it as a hobby/work. I want to take my photography to another level and make it a serious hobby.

My target for 2010 is also to get a Nikon Nikkor 70-200mm f2.8 VR lens. I know photography is not about the gear but I really love that lens! Knowing me, I don’t think I’ll be able to hit my target. Oh well, having a target is better than having none.

Oh yeah, I want to talk about my dream last night. A weird one!

I dreamt that I am the owner of one of the two Bugatti Veyrons in Malaysia! My Veyron is an all blue one, just like this:

The funny thing is, I was driving it down the LDP with two passengers! I can’t remember who were with me but an actual Veyron has only two seats, how did mine fit three people is beyond me.

Then when I drove it to OUG, I saw the other Veyron in the country, a two toned one (red and black) just like this:

We then drove the Veyrons to the BHP Station at Jalan Hujan Emas 4 to take pictures.

I woke up after that. Dreams will be dreams I guess. :)

Savouring The Moment

I’m savouring the moment of having a little time in my hands to blog.

I’m savouring the moment of having all three generations of iPhones with me.

Front
(L-R) iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS

Back (8GB, 16GB, 32GB)
I’m savouring the moment of having four iPhones on my table.

(L-R) iPhone, iPhone 3G, brother’s iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS

I’m savouring the moment of having five touch screen Apple devices with me.

(L-R) iPhone, iPhone 3G, brother’s iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, First Generation iPod Touch

I’m savouring the moment of having so many Apple stuff on my table.

iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, brother’s iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS on the keyboard of my MacBook 2.0GHz Core Duo, the iPod Touch First Generation on the trackpad, the iPod nano third generation sandwiched in between a Black and Lime Green iPod shuffle third generation (both 2GB and all three unopened), iPod shuffle second generation (1GB) on the iPod nano, and the discontinued Apple Wireless Mighty Mouse.

All are mine besides both iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS. An iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3GS are loaned units from Apple Malaysia while the other iPhone 3G is my brother’s.

I like this moment. :) Good night.

New Purchases!

I bought some stuff these past few days.

My brother needed a camera to take some pictures in Papua New Guinea for a brochure he’s doing so I passed my Panasonic LUMIX LX-3 to my uncle for him to take it over.

My dad came back a few days ago and told me that my brother needs the camera. So I went camera hunting. I wanted something like the LX-3 – a compact that’s small and powerful, as well as one that my mum can use.

I was looking at the Canon Powershot S90 since its launch, as well as the Sony DSC WX-1 that Huei has. Both cameras are as good as the LX-3 but not better than.

I did a lot of reading online and these three cameras are in the same league. None is better than the other. The Sony is a lot cheaper but it uses Sony’s Memory Stick, a format that’s expensive and rare (Ok lah, not rare but less than the usual SDs and CFs). Heck, I don’t even have a Memory Stick reader! The Canon seems to be perfect but it’s still not an LX-3 (damn I miss the LX-3). I bought the S90 anyway.

I’ve been using it as my main camera for the past few days and it turned out to be pretty good. I love the fact that it can zoom a lot further than the LX-3 (the LX-3’s zoom is just pathetic). I love the control ring, the slim form factor and the wide enough lens.

I don’t really fancy the slow(er) lens (compared to the LX-3) at longer zooms and I really miss the superb macro on the LX-3. I miss the hot shoe as well. I have an Olympus FL-50 that’s fully compatible with the LX-3 (and I use it a lot) and i hate the fact that I can’t bounce my flash anymore.

It’s all pros and cons. Nothing is perfect. Just accept the fact lah.

Oh yeah, I bought my first ever lens for the Nikon D90 as well!

Behold my first lens!

Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f1.8D

The most affordable lens ever and the best lens in its price range! All DSLR owners should get a fast prime lens like this, especially when it’s so affordable!

I wanted this lens when I got the D90 but it was out of stock all the time. Either that or it’s expensive (about RM100 more for what I paid for mine).

It’s not one of the lens I dreamed about in my last post but I’m happy. Wide aperture FTW!!!

Mounted on the D90. It looks so small now. :)

Got to go. Busy week ahead. Good night!
