Busy!

My readership has dropped these few days. Is it because of my lack of updates? Sorry guys, been really busy these few days. I have a job, remember?

Anyway, I have been attending events and product launches since every day since my first day at work and I am loving the door gifts of every event.
I have also been reviewing a lot of products lately, from mobile phones to graphic cards to motherboards to printers to MP3 players. Some of these products are dreams to others, costing more than my home computer!

Anyway, I had my first encounter with an Apple iPod Touch! It was magnificant. No words could describe it and I am getting one when it is officially available in Malaysia. Apple Malaysia had a preview of the iPod Touch yesterday for invited media only. The magazine I am working for is one of them. There were only about 12 people attended the preview. Really exclusive stuff!

Head over to myMacBUZZ to see my article about the iPod.

Computers and Macs

Apple launched its newest Mac, the iMac, recently.  I always wanted an iMac ever since it first came our in 1998.  I was fascinated by it’s all in one design.  Heck, it even saved Apple from closing down and brought Steve Jobs back to Apple.  The iMac was very expensive at the time.  I just bought a Pentium II at the time it was launched.  When the second generation iMac was launched, it was even nicer with it’s LCD monitor.  The only thing that stopped me from buying an iMac was the price and also the Mac OS.  It’s a totally new interface for a Windows person like me.

Times have changed and Apple collaborated with Intel to produce Intel Macs, that’s when I got my first Mac, a MacBook, and I loved it ever since.

There are pros and cons for using a Mac.  Let’s face it, More than 80% of the world’s computers run on Windows.  Software and compatibility with the Mac is always an issue.  I know you could run Parellels or Boot Camp, but why buy a Mac but use Windows?

My desktop PC is more than 5 years old.  I told myself if my desktop breaks down beyond repairs, I’ll get an iMac but being a computing guy, my computer almost never breaks down *TOUCH WOOD*.  Everytime it breaks down, I could repair it myself.  Maintenance cost is very minimal.

I know you are wondering, how could someone like me (computing person) could use ancient computers like this.  Well, I don’t play games, I don’t do a lot of process hungry stuff.  My computers are just for internet surfing and also some simple word processing.

Anyway, David from myMacBUZZ asked me if I would like to contribute to myMacBUZZ by writing stuff about Macs and iPods and all things Apple.  I agreed without thinking much.  I’ve always wanted to write stuff to magazines and websites ever since I got access to the internet.  I like it when they have the newest stuff to play with and they have first hand information.  I know I am not an early Apple user but I’ve been reading Apple’s stuff on Wikipedia, on the internet and everywhere.

David wanted to pay me for contributing to myMacBUZZ but I refused.  The love I have for Apple can not be measured in dollar signs.  I’ll be writing my first post very soon.  So go to myMacBUZZ and check it out guys!

Exam time!

My exams are coming soon.  And I have not started studying yet.  My notes are still in my bag and my text book is spanking new.

I guess I should start on Monday.  Yeah Monday.  Sunday is not a day for working/studying!

This will be my final exams for the first part of my MBA course.  After this, hopefully, I’ll be in the second part, which I heard was tough.

Anyway, Apple released new iPods and I fell in love with the iPod Nano, AKA Fatty.  RM829 for the 8GB version.  Should I?

Business talk

I just bought a Nintendo Wii for my brother.  It’s going to be his birthday gift cum graduation present.  He is graduating from University of Sydney on 19th October 2007.  The next day is his 23rd birthday.  I had a lot of fun on the Wii.  Yes, “had”.  I am never a video games guy.  I do play a lot of video games when I was younger but the games I play are very, erm…, shallow.  I like games where you don’t have to think so much, where you could start playing whenever you like it.  Games like Final Fantasy and Tomb Raider are totally out for me.  It requires too much thinking!

Anyway, my dad came back from Papua New Guinea today.  He talked to be about one of the problems he is facing in his business in Malaysia.  This is the first time he asked my opinion on something like that.  He usually asks my brother, which has a better understanding of the business world as he is studying commerce in uni.  Maybe it’s because I’ve been “exposed” to the business world a bit via my MBA courses.  I gave him my opinion and I was glad he agreed, and I am also glad that my views are the same as my brother’s.  I am totally new to all these stuff but I am thinking in line with a commerce graduate and a businessman with more than 30 years of experience.

I’ve been thinking of starting my own business for some time now but the thing is, I don’t really know what to expect from the business world out there.  Starting your own business and working for some one is totally different.  I don’t even know where to start.  I don’t have any money to start with.  I don’t have any concept.  I don’t have any ideas.  I don’t even know what type of business should I venture into.

My dad and my uncles runs a family business left by my grandfather.  I’m sure one of these days, it’ll be my brother, me and my cousins running the company.   There are a lot of young and successful people out there.  I want to be one of the young and successful people as well.  I want to be able to afford the finer things in life, without depending on anyone.  I want to be able to buy my dream car (which is a Subaru Impreza S203, if you were wondering).  I want to be able to buy my dream house.  I want to be able to provide a comfortable living for my family, like what my dad provided me with.

Maybe someday I’ll be able to see what is right for me to venture in.  Some day……

P.S. Raymond, Happy belated birthday.  I didn’t know my admission date was your birthday!

Transformers, More than meets the eyes!

I went to watch Transformers with Eileen the other day and it brought back a lot of memories to me.

I used to have A LOT of Transformers toys when I was young.  Yeah, I was one of those lucky kids with loving parents that could afford toys for me and my brother.  Me and my brother spent so much time on the toys that we kinda neglected our studies.  My mum wrapped up all our toys, put it in a big box and took it to her office.  So whenever we wanted to play the toys, we will have to go to my mum’s office and play it there.

I remembered every time when there was a special day, be it birthdays or Christmas or when I got good results for my exam, I would beg my mum to bring me to the mall and get a Transformer.  My brother usually waits until the exact date to open his toys, while I couldn’t wait.  I would rip the package off right after I got into the car.

I had so many last time that I think I lost count of it.  The toys were given away to orphans we we grew out of it.

When I followed my dad to Papua New Guinea for about 1 year, my dad would seperate all our toys.  I got all the good guys and my brother get all the bad guys.

After watching the movie, I knew I HAVE TO GET a Transformer toy, for the love of it.  So I got an Optimus Prime!

This thing is expensive! I bought it for RM19.90.

I remembered I had a Liokaiser for Chinese New Year (yeah, Chinese New Year, my uncle took all the kids out to a toy store and we said we can buy any 1 item we want) and it was only RM89.90.  It had 6 full sized Transformers and could combine into a big Transformer!  It had a big box, information leaflets of each Transformer and a whole lot of stuff.  The Optimus Prime I bought just now was this small 2.5 inch toy, for RM19.90.  These toys got really expensive!

I saw the other day that someone was selling his original Liokaiser for RM600++.  If I had all my Transformers with me right now, I’d be rich!

I wanted to collect all of it.  I think they have about 12-15 Transformers, both Autobots and Decepticons, but at RM19.90 a pop, I can’t afford it and most Autobots were sold out.  Only a few Optimus Primes left.

Memories……..
