Leaving on a JetStar

I will be boarding JQ66 in 5 hours time and it’s raining heavily outside.  I am going to Sydney, Australia, to attend my brother’s convocation.  Will be travelling on JetStar, the low cost flight for Qantas.

It’s been 6 years since he left Malaysia for Australia to study.  Now that he’s graduating, that means that he is a man now and will be ready for the workforce.

Anyway, I’ll be bringing a laptop over to Sydney as I have some work to be done.  I hope everything is fine in my workplace when I’m gone.  This week is the busiest week as we need to be wrapping up the magazine already.

Oh yeah, a few post back I said that I’ll be getting a new toy.  It’s a Canon EOS 350D DSLR camera.  This camera will be the first step for me to better photography (or maybe worse).  I got a third party flashgun for it just now, about 6 times cheaper than Canon’s original flashguns.

I’ll also be taking the new HTC TyTN II to Australia.  I swear it’s for work purpose! I’ll need to submit a two page review when I’m in Australia.  Maybe I’ll do the review on the plane.

My next entry might be next week, when I come back.  So see you guys!

My first official "overseas” trip

Took the KLIA Ekspress this morning and got to KLIA at about 10.30am.  Met with the other medias and the PR people there.  Boarded the plane at 11.30am and the plane took off at 11.50am.

The lunch at Intel, I think it was prepared by the PR, was like prison food.  I thought we would have at least some steaks or chops, but the food was bland.  I couldn’t finish it.

The press conference was less than 1 hour.  The we were informed that our flight will be delayed for more than 1 hour.  Since Intel and the airport was near and we have already pre-checked in, we wanted to go walk around in one of the new shopping malls in Penang, Queensbay Mall.

The driver came, PR told him if we could go to Queensbay Mall, he said he has another assignment after dropping us off.  So no choice, have to wait at the airport until we board.

So we went to the airport directly, took a look at the TV thingy that shows the flight information (what do you call those things anyway) and to our horror, our flight will leave in 15 minutes.  So we rushed to the gate and luckily, no one boarded the plane yet, typical Malaysian timing.  As a result, we didn’t miss our flight back to KL.  Luckily we didn’t go to the mall!

I can’t remember the last time I went to Penang.  This time, it’s nothing more either.  Got to the Penang Airport, went into van, go to Intel, have lunch, attend press conference, went back to the airport, fly back to KL.  That’s it.

Went to the HP event right after I reached home.  It was a dinner event, nothing formal and it was less than 5 minutes from my house.  Mingled a bit with the people there, had great food.  There was a lucky draw too, but I don’t have a name card to be drawn.

From the words I’ve heard, HP organizes the best events in town.  There is another HP event this Thursday, I’ll see if I can make it.

Oh yeah, I sold my Sony DSC-H5 last night.  Planning to get a Canon EOS 400D but it’s still far from what I can afford right now.  At the mean time, I’ll “borrow” my company’s camera until I get the 400D.

My new camera!

My company just gave me a brand new DSLR, the Olympus E-510.  Ken has one too, the Olympus E-410.  Since I know a bit more photography (about 0.01% more) than Ken, I have the higher end one.  We are supposed to use the cameras to take event pictures and product shots.  We bought a macro lens and a flash gun with it as well.

It’s my first DSLR and I have no knowledge about using a DSLR.  I took some pictures of my birthday last night but it didn’t turn out good.  I think I need to get some books on DSLR and read some online guides to use one.

Anyway, thanks to eveyone who sent me sms and left comments on my blog, Friendster and also Facebook.  Thanks guys!

Free gifts and it’s my birthday!

My mum just told me that she’ll need to get a cupboard for all my free gifts if I continue to bring back all the free gifts I got at events and I have the most generous company (in terms of free gifts) as of today, Packeteer.

I attended Packeteer’s event at The Ritz Carlton Hotel today.  After registering, the PR girl gave me a bag where I got a pendrive (512MB) and this:

What kind of IT companies give out rugby balls as a door gift? But I don’t care, call me what you like, it’s a damn cool free gift ok!

The venue they chosen was spectacular, The Ritz Carlton.  The forum was only attended by 6-7 people, we got all the attention we wanted (that means have to pay attention to the speaker as well).  And each seat was prepared with a small stack of Conquer paper, the best pen I’ve used, a mineral water with a glass that is so fine that it looks like some fine bone china, and this

It’s a box of mints.  Look at the box, it looks expensive and it is very nice!

I’ll attend to ANY Packeteer events from now on!

I am attending a Dell event in Putrajaya tomorrow and the Intel event next Tuesday, where they fly me there for a 1 hour event! I am expecting Intel and Dell will top what Packeteer has done.

One day I’ll post up all the free gifts I get.  Most of them are caps (U Mobile, Nikon), shirts (U Mobile), bags (Nikon, Canon-small camera bag), lanyards (U Mobile, Nikon, Canon) , keychains (Nokia – I expected Nokia to be a bit more generous, but they disappoint me, I gave your E61i very high marks in my review…Just joking lah…It was a cool keychain!), Memory card reader (Intel), pen drive (Packeteer), Rugby Ball(Packeteer) and a bunch of super expensive and delicious food from Apple Malaysia (food from d-lish) and Nokia (food from delicious)!

Oh yeah, it’s my birthday today.  Throw me a comment at this post and wish me happy birthday so I could find out 2 things:

  • So that I would be happy!
  • So that I know how many people are reading my blog

Will be having dinner with Eileen and my friends later tonight.
