My Graduation

Well, I’ve finally got my Masters in Busines Administration degree.  These are some of the photos I took at the graduation ceremony.  I didn’t take a lot because the stupid gown was so hot and I was wearing a coat.  Didn’t feel like taking any pictures.

This is Lisa from Lisalicious, where I commented some very long comments on her MBA topics and stuff like that.

And she says she’s not pretty.  Girls, I tell you, are never satisfied with how they look! LoL!

My parents!

My girlfriend!

Me and my cert and my Mak Dau! My girlfriend got the Mak Dau for me because she said it looks like me!

Me on stage taking my certificate from the chancellor

I was surprised that there were media seats allocated at the ceremony.  I even saw a few of the photographers that I see at events.  Then I found out that the Minister of Tourism Malaysia was one of the Honorary Graduates and she was voted out of the UMNO Supreme Council thingy the day before.  No wonder there were so many journalists and photographers.

The photographers even followed her out of the hall and journalists trying to ask her questions.

Both times I graduated, there are big shots at my graduation.  In England, when I got my Computer Science degree, Pierluigi Collina, the best referee in the world, was conferred an honorary doctorate degree as well.  He was like a celebrity in the football crazy country, in a small tiny town called Hull! This time, it’s some Malaysian Minister.

Can’t I get a “quieter” graduation? Maybe on my DBA? Who knows?

Public Enemy

I’ve FINALLY finished my part of the magazine today, so that leaves me some time to blog before I start next month’s issue as well as my assignments.

I think I am the public enemy among the journalists now. I’ve won two phones in less than 24 hours previously and they said I was lucky. I agree.

The other day at an HP printer event, there was a lucky draw. The boss of HP drew a card, gave it to the emcee and he said, “Today’s lucky draw winner will walk away with a HP Colour LaserJet printer worth RM1,499 and the winner is from Plaza Damas in Sri Hartamas.” I heard this and I knew it was me, because as far as I know, there are only two magazines in Plaza Damas, my magazine as well as another magazine that is not related to IT but just to make sure, I didn’t go up.

So he continued, “The winner is from CHIP magazine, Mr. Justin Koh!” So there, I won a HP Printer.

The next week, I was at a Motorola event and they were launching the Motorola ROKR E8 music phone. It was a very big event with plenty of foreign media present, about 200 people maybe. There were two rounds of lucky draw and 16 prizes to give away which included 8 Motorola ROKR E8 as well as 8 Motorola S9 Bluetooth headset. The winners will have to go to the emcee, which was Natalie from Hitz.fm and choose an envelope, so you’ll either get the phone or the headset.

First round of lucky draw, 8 winners were chosen. The seventh winner, was Justin Koh from CHIP Malaysia. ME AGAIN! I heard the people at the back saying, “Har? He won so many things already lah!”. So I went up, chose an envelope and Natalie asked me to read it. There were so many words that I didn’t know what I won. She told me to read the title. It’s the Motorola ROKR E8. So there, I won a Motorola ROKR E8 worth RM1,199.

After the event, a few of the journalists jokingly said, “Justin, next time when you attend an event with lucky draws, let me know, because I don’t want to waste my time. You sure win one!”

So this week, Nokia sent me an email and told me that I was selected as the winner of their N-Gage game for media a few months back. I was surprised because I played the game plenty of times but my times were not the best. My sales manager’s time was second best and Gary, Stuff Magazine’s editor was the highest score. So by right, he should be the one winning the phone, not me.

Today when I collected the phone, Nokia told me that they looked at their system and saw that my score was the highest, so they contacted me. So there, I won a Nokia N81 8GB. I don’t feel good about winning this phone as I didn’t deserve to win it but I am using it though! hehehe

On another note, I’ll be going to Taipei to cover Computex 2008, the largest IT exhibition in the world. I don’t really have time to explore Taipei as my schedules are packed. Will be there from 2nd June to 6th June.

On another note again, I attended an event by Happy yesterday at Mid Valley and I met quite a number of famous bloggers like Kimberly (will play the Wii with you next time..hehe..), KY and Suanie. I met Nicole there as well. The last time I met her was when she just came back from Vietnam and sick. I see her yesterday and she looked healthy. Take care ok!

Till the next entry, see you!

Updates

I can’t really think of a title for my entries anymore. I have problems writing a title for my articles in the magazine too. Ken does all the dirty work.

Anyway, I am kinda busy with my assignments and work. Mostly assignments as it is due next Monday. After this assignment will be my exams for the first semester of year 2. I don’t know how is it going to turn up but I really hope I can just pass it.

Work is a bit slow these weeks. Not many events to attend. I am attending one event tomorrow at KL Sentral (the first event for this month!). Usually we do not have to attend events like this but this month is reaaaaaaly quiet. If I don’t attend as much as I could, I might not have news to write for this month. In my line of work, no news is bad news!

Fortunately, there is the CES in Las Vegas. No, I didn’t get to go to Las Vegas to cover it but I’ll be “covering” it anyway in the magazine. There is also the Macworld coming up next week. It might be quiet locally but internationally, it’s wild!

I’ve also been thinking of learning up a new skill (secret). A skill that I hope I will be able to master in less than 2 years time. I don’t know if I have the time for it. I’ll need to find a tutor as well but it’s not too hard.

I think that’s about it! Be happy guys (and gals)!

P.S. The Samsung SGH F330 that I won was finally delivered to me yesterday! Look at the phones I have now!

Top Row : Samsung SGH-D880 (review unit), Motorola V3i (bought), LG KG276 (Viewty event door gift), Nokia E51 (review unit), HTC P3400 (review unit)

Bottom Row: Samsung SGH F330 (won), Apple iPhone 8GB (bought), Nokia 6500 Classic (won), Sony Ericsson M600i (bro gave it to me).

Not in picture: Sony Ericsson W810i (loaned it to Yat Yat, bro gave it to me), Sony Ericsson K750i (bought, gave it to mum), Sony Ericsson W850i (bought, gave it to Eileen)

I might sell my Motorola V3i and LG KG276. Eileen will be taking the Samsung SGH F330 so I might sell her Sony Ericsson W850i as well. The Sony Ericsson M600i is a good phone but it’s got some minor defects. I might want to sell the 2 phones my brother gave me but I need his approval first.
