While waiting…

I am in the office right now, waiting for the benchmark on one of the reviews to finish and while waiting, I’ll just write a short entry here.

I’m spoilt for choices when it comes to internet connection these days.  I have Streamyx, which breaks down once a week, a very slow but reliable DiGI EDGE unlimited using my iPhone as a modem, P1 W1GGY that needs to be in coverage and outdoors to get connected and a recently loaned to me DiGi Broadband connection that gives me the BSOD everytime I unplug it from my computer.

Despite having four internet connection options, none of them are perfect.  I have high hopes for the P1 W1GGY but there is no coverage at home.  The one I like the most, and using it very frequently, is DiGi’s EDGE.  Yes it’s VERY slow but it loads what I want.

Anyway, I am thinking of selling my Nokia XpressMusic 5800 to get a Nokia E71.  I helped Cheah buy an E71 from Ah Kit and I’m liking it.  The 5800 is just not me… I seldom use it too as I have plenty of review phones to use every month.

OK, benchmark finish. Talk to you guys later!

Just a random entry

It’s 4am in the morning now and I just finished writing a review.  In the process of testing the battery life of the ASUS EeePC 1000HE.  I set it to 100% brightness with WiFi on and tasked it to download some huge files over the internet.  I’ll do another test with minimum power usage.  Apparently it can last for 9.5 hours.  Let’s see if I can get that amount of battery life.

Anyway, it’s approaching the end of the month now and that only mean one thing; Time to get busy!

I hope I can finish my stuff earlier this month.  There’s nothing I need to do, just want to finish everything earlier.

As you may know now, this entry is a nothing-to-write-so-just-type-a-few-words-and-call-it-a-day entry.

Good night!

What’s inside the mind of a 13 year old?

Recently my friend’s geeky little brother asked me to lend him the Intel Core i7 965 Extreme processor I have in the office so that he can take his gaming a step further. I declined mainly because it’s not mine and the fella needs to study!

He asked me this because he’s been seeing me carrying my netbook with my work stuff in it.  He figures that since my work is in the netbook, the processor is vacant. Cunning little bastard!

Anyway, he then asks me why do I want to do my work on a tiny netbook instead of the huge 24 inch screen in the office. I told him that everything I need is inside this tiny netbook.  I only need a computer to write stuff and surf the internet.  The Intel Atom processor with the 10 inch screen and the large-ish keyboard that my Joybook Lite has is good enough for all the stuff I do.

My BenQ Joybook Lite.

He then said, “The speed of the Core i7 processor is so much faster than the Intel Atom processor, it doesn’t matter to you meh?”

I told him it matters, it’s just that I use my computers for work and I don’t really play a lot of games.  A little (in this case, a HUGE) speed bump is always welcomed, but it’s what inside my netbook that counts.

All my work related stuff, from articles, to PDFs of the magazine, up until my email is stored inside my netbook.  I need all these files to do my work.  It’ll be a hassle to transfer everything from my netbook to the desktop at work, not to mention I’ll loose the portability of the netbook.

He then told me, “That’s what secretaries are for! Tell your secretary to transfer for you lah!”

He is 13 years old and he assembled his computer without my friend’s help.  He gave a list of hardware to my friend and asks him to buy according to the list as my friend promised to buy him a computer for his straight A results in UPSR.  The list was very detail from the model specs like Core i7 920 down to the brand names like Kingston or Western Digital! I was thinking of which bus to take to go home and he is here spec-ing computers!

He may look like a 13 year old but the stuff going round in his head is what matters the most!  Secretaries, how the hell did he get that idea? Kids these days I tell you…

Celebrations (Pics added)

The end of last week was a tiring one.  I went to PC Fair 2009 with Cheah early in the morning (ok, we got there at 11am, still early for me) for our PC Fair coverage.  We do that every PC Fair, just to check out what’s on offer and at the same time meet our advertisers.  Right after the PC Fair, we went to a Sony event and thank god the event was at the same building!

Saturday was even more tiring.  I woke up just before lunch, then went to Carrefour to get some barbecue stuff.  Some of the media and PR people came over to my house to celebrate three things, i.e. Eddy’s belated birthday, Mei Leng’s birthday and my graduation.

It was a raining the whole night! We had to use umbrellas over the barbecue pit so that the food stays dry and making sure that the charcoal remained hot! I’m glad to report that we finished all alcohol that was available! 2 cartons of beer, 1 bottle of Absolut Pear, 1 bottle of Green Label and a bottle of white wine, all gone! The food, however, was in excess.  We bought too much meat! We had at least 10 packs of sausages, 5 packs of burger patties, 30 chicken wings and plenty of kebab! I had to force them to take some home! I guess I’ll be eating leftover BBQ food for a while! We had PLENTY of ice too! At least 10 packs! 7-Elevens must be wondering where their ice went!

We adjourned to my place at about 11pm because the security guards were making noise, saying that we were too loud.  We played some drinking games, then one by one they fell, like dominos.  Eddy and Mrs Eddy left earlier because Mrs Eddy had some things to do next morning.  I’m not too sure if Eddy could wake up in time for that as he was swimming in the Green Label earlier.

Mei Leng fell, followed by Lola and Zhien.  Then Jason fell.  Wern Shen demonstrated his shotgun skills at the balcony with Ken, Mel and me as witness.  Then there were some leg pulling *winks at Wern Shen* and Zhien was awake together with Jason.  We were then talking at the balcony and I sneakily recorded everything! HAHAHAHAHA!

They left at about 5am.  I cleaned the house a bit and went to bed.  The next day, I woke up at 4pm, just in time for early dinner! The whole of Sunday, or the remaining of it, was spent chilling and sleeping at home.

My timezone is screwed yet again! I need to adjust it back soon!

BEWARE! 78 (low res) pictures ahead! It will kill your bandwidth, even with TMNUT’s SCREAMYX!

Mentioned

Wern Shen said something about me on his blog.  It sounded REALLY GAY!

Oh yeah, if you want to comment in his blog, you’ll need to go through a looooong registration process before you can do that.  Dude, host it on blogspot lah!

Thanks man! I’ll blog about you in my next entry. LOL.

By the way, I can’t really “hold my drinks well” like he said.  I’ll get drunk on my 387th pint and I’ll puke on my 463rd pint.  So, yeah…I still get drunk! And puke!
