News flash! This Just In…

Hello 2009!

This is an obligatory “Welcome 2009″ entry but I don’t really mind as it lets me reflect on what I’ve done the in 2008. Anyway, I know this entry came about 2 hours late (I typed this at 2am, I don’t know when will I finish typing this entry), but better late than never, right? So let’s start with what I’ve done in 2008.

Getting my MBA

My biggest achievement is of course getting my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) majoring in Project Management (which reminds me that I have a pending entry for those who wished to get an MBA while working).  It’s been a very difficult year in when it comes to this.

As most of you know, I’m taking my MBA while working in the magazine, a job that needs to adhere to plenty of datelines and due date.  2008 is my second year, which is also an external year where all my assignments and exams are moderated externally from the university.  This also mean that the subjects are harder.  Further more, I’m majoring in Project Management, which means I couldn’t choose which subject I want, making it hard for me to focus on.

I’m glad that everything is over now and the only thing for me to do for my MBA is to choose where to graduate, as well as to attend the convocation.

Attending weddings

I attended a plethora of weddings last year.  I attended Alan’s wedding at the beginning of the year, followed by Shereen’s wedding, then Koon and Christine’s wedding in Kedah.  After that I wento Andrew’s wedding in KL and lastly, Wei Yih and Chien Hoon’s wedding last month, which coincides with Andrew’s JB wedding.

Congratulations to you guys and may you guys be happy forever.

First time electing

Earlier this year, i registered my vote for the election, which saw the the most successful election in Malayisian history for the opposition party.  LIke I said in my previous entry, the internet played a big part in this election, more people know what is happening through blogs and stuff like this.  Internet, the new media, that’s what they call it.

New watch

My dad got me a new watch, which leads to me knowing a few new friends, KeeeKeee, Chiewata and Davidz.  They are gadget fellas like me as well.  Nice meeting you guys this year!

Computex 2008

I went to Taipei last June to cover Computex 2008 and it was my first time in Taiwan.  I liked Taipei a lot and it’s also my first time in Taiwan.  I want to go there again!

Singapore

I went to Singapore twice last year, both fully sponsored.  The first time was in May where I attended Adobe’ Acrobat 9 launch.  The second was in November where I got to interview Mark Levinson, the Golden Ear himself, at the LG event.

Lucky draw winnings

I won too many things this year.  2008 was my first full year working at the magazine and I attended numerous events.  Let me see if I can list down all the things I won.

  • Nokia N81 8GB (Won an online contest for the media, which I don’t really deserve)
  • Motorola ROKR E8 (Won at the ROKR E8 launch)
  • HP LaserJet Printer (Won at the launch, gave to my dad’s office)
  • BenQ Joybook Lite (Won recently at the launch)
I think that’s about it.  I think there are more but I just can’t remember.  These are the ones that I remember.

Photography

2008 was also the year that I took photography seriously.  I sold of my Canon 350D and bought a Nikon D90, an upgrade to my Canon.  I know all the photography jargons and stuff for a few years now but last year was the year I polished up my skills, instead of just taking photographs, I’ll try my best taking GOOD photos.  Still trying to do that but I’m happy to say that I’m improving!

Those were the happy things that happened in 2008 but there were some not really happy moments.

TwinTower

Ken leaving CHIP

Ken introduced me to the industry and he left me there alone (for 1 month) to pickup the shit he left for me! Haha..Kidding lah.  I’m glad that he found a better job at Catcha and really happy for him.  His departure brought Jason to CHIP so at least there’s someone taking over his part of the magazine but that 1 month was REALLY tiring! Bro, you owe me dinner!!!

Back problems

Last year wasn’t a good year for my back.  I was struck with the old sickness twice. The first time I healed in a week under medication but the second one, which is a few months back is still healing as I type this post.  There is still a tiny numbness on my left toe.  Nothing major but I’ve to go to physio therapy more often and continue my medication.

Well thre were hiccups here and there for the whole of last year but I am thankful that I’ve met plenty of people and got closer to some.  I’d just like to shout out to these guys and gals.

Davidz, KeeeKeee, Chiewata, Chee Minh, lola, Mel, Erna, Kevin, Wei Zhien, Jason, Eddy, Wern Shen, Huei, David, wei, Jibone and Afiq.  Thank’s for making my year a happy one! For those not mentioned here, it doesn’t mean that you’re less important, it just mean that I’m just too lazy…hehe…

Anyway, I’d like to wish everyone a very happy new year and may 2009 be a better year!
