News flash! This Just In…

Archive for October, 2008

Finally!

The magazine is finally done! With Jason coming in only on the 15th and problems while downloading the Indian production files really gave us a scare through out the month.  All is done now and let’s just hope that November will be a better month.

I’ll be taking it easy for a few days until 1st November.  Eileen will finally be graduating and I’ll be attending her convocation this Saturday.  At night, I’ll be attending my cousin’s baby boy’s full moon birthday party.  I had to cancel an invitation from Samsung for their Innov8 phone.  I am supposed to go for a treasure hunt thingy and have a VERY high chance of winning the phone.  Too bad.

I’ll also be attending an event on Sunday, which means I have to work, something that I don’t really mind.

After that, I’ll need to study for my Law exam, which will be on the 7th of November.  My Project Management assignment dues on the 3rd of November but I’ll be extending it to the 10th of November.

15th November is Andrew’s KL wedding and I’ll be attending that as well.  After that, it’s crunch time all over again!

I’m looking forward to my exam and assignment not because I love doing it but because it’ll be my last two subjects before I get my MBA.  If I pass this, I’ll be one of the happiest guy on earth.  The amount of time and sacrifices I gave for my MBA is starting to bug me.  I haven’t had a nice weekend for the past two years and all the late nights rushing for assignments is killing me.

So let’s hope I can pass both my exam and assignment.  Got to go sleep now.  Bye!

P.S. News Flash…This Just In turned three today.  Which reminds me that I need to pay my web hosting fees.  Like last year, my blog is not exactly “famous” and I don’t wish it to be famous.  The nuffnang ads you see are just an experiment I’m doing.  I’ll be taking it down soon.  This is where I write the stuff I like and not succumb to the blogging-for-money pressure.  So, no free giveaway this year either.  Maybe next year!

Barter trade

Someone has been pestering my to update my blog, as if she’s updated hers. Posting one picture with a one-liner doesn’t count!

Anyway, there are so many things happening right now. I’m so busy that I don’t even have time to shit. I have the magazine to wrap, an entry in myMacBUZZ to be written, an assignment to complete, an exam to study, a convocation to attend, a wedding dinner to attend and a baby’s full moon dinner to attend. All these will be taking place the next two weeks. I hope I have time for it.

I wanted to do an angry post about this blogger/intern-at-another-mag but I don’t have time for it. Yes, I am that angry!

Oh yeah, remember the iPod Shuffle I got from DiGi’s event? I exchanged it with a Samsung MP3 player with my new Editor, Jason. He went to this Samsung event and they were giving out MP3 players as door gift and since I have an iPod Shuffle, I might as well exchange it to get a different player.

I’d like to wish everyone here a Happy Deepavali.  I have to work though.

Happy Birthday

I am a little late with this entry but I’d like to wish my brother a very happy birthday.

I know you are not having fun in Papua New Guinea.  Try to do whatever you can and as long as you’ve tried your best, it’ll be fine.

Happy Birthday!

Mamma Mia, here we go again. My my, how can I resist you!

I just watched Mamma Mia! with Eileen at Sunway Pyramid and it really brought back memories to me.  My mum is an ardent fan of ABBA and she plays their songs when she drove us to school and fetched us from tuition.  She was a fan that when we bought our first VCD player cum Hi-Fi system, the first thing we got, along with a few movie VCDs were ABBA’s Greatest Hits VCD, featuring all of their music videos.

What fascinates me was Meryl Streeps performance in the movie.  You see, I just watched Devil Wears Prada on Astro last week (by now you’d notice that I am VERY slow at movies) and she was GOOD as Miranda Priestly.  She was so good that it made me love my job even more.  Miranda is the Editor in Chief at Runway, I am writing for CHIP in Malaysia, there is a similarity, albeit a VERY VERY small one, between us.  I enjoyed watching the movie as it relates to what I am doing now.

Then I watched Mamma Mia! and her performance as Donna Sheridan was a 180 degrees change from Miranda Priestly.  She was so laid back and her dances were good.  I kept imagining her dancing and singing in Miranda Priestly but I just couldn’t get the picture in my mind.  That’s how good she is!

Anyway, Mamma Mia! is the second musical-movie-type-thingy I watched.  The first was Phantom Of The Opera.  Both movies had people singing along in the cinema, something which I hate.  I am here, paying the same fare as you are, trying to enjoy the movie, which in this case, listening to the actors singing, and you are there singing your at the top of your voice in that off tuned sound.

Please be considerate to other people in the cinema.  If you want to sing, go to a karaoke and sing.  The cinema is a place for you to watch a movie, not a sing-a-long fest!

Mamma Mia! is actually a stage play and they are coming to Malaysia at the end of the year.  I’ll try to buy the tickets if I managed to find time and the location to buy it.

Free stuff

I went to a DiGi event today and I got a free iPod Shuffle by just answering a very, Very, VERY simple question. They gave out five iPod Shuffles and I was one of the lucky ones. Mine is the blue one but I’d prefer the Product Red one, the one a fellow journalist won. Nevertheless, having one is better than having none.

I now have two iPod Shuffles, one grey (which I got in Singapore) and the one I won today, one iPod Touch 16GB (first generation, which I bought in Australia), an iPod Nano 4GB (third generation, my brother gave it to me as a birthday present) and an iPhone (it’s an iPod also mah). I only have one pair of ears, just like anyone else!

Oh yeah, I attended a Logitech event the other day and they gave me a product that they launch. Each publication gets one unit and the reviewer gets to keep it. It was the Logitech Harmony One remote control that retails for RM1,099!

This remote control is basically the future, like I told my mum. The appliances in my house doesn’t justify what the remote control is capable of. I’ve set it to control my TV, DVD player, Astro and my aircond! Basically, everything that uses an Infra Red based remote control can be set on the Harmony One. If I have a remote controlled fan or curtain, I could control everything with just one button!

My house just went high tech with the Harmony One!
