Political Tsunami / The people has spoken

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

I was contemplating what title to use for this entry. Hence, I put both. “Political Tsunami” was today’s Star paper’s headline but it was originated from DAP veteran, Lim Kit Siang on his blog.

I usually don’t really care about politics in my country, although I know what’s happening. Yesterday was the Malaysia’s 12th General Election and also the first time I voted.

Most of you may already know since it’s all over the papers, CNN, Bloomberg and even Wikipedia. The national coalition, Barisan Nasional, can still form a government but they lost 5 states to the opposition parties. The opposition parties also denied BN their 2/3 majorities in the parliament, winning 82 seats. This is really a set back to the BN.

In my area, Lembah Pantai, incumbent Sharizat was going against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s daughter, Nurul Izzah and Nurul won. It was really unexpected. Works minister, Sami Velu also lost his seat. Koh Tsu Koon lost his CM-ship in Penang. Yesterday was really a blow to the BN.

My opinion on this election was, the internet played a huge role. HUGE HUGE ROLE. I keep telling everyone I meet. in 2004, the Internet penetration rate wasn’t as high and blogs were not as popular.

The Malaysian media are all owned by the BN/government and in the past 2 weeks, numerous pages in the newspapers were used as BN’s advertisements. TV stations kept airing BN’s stuff. All the opposition could do is just through the Internet, and it worked.

Jeff Ooi, Malaysia’s most influential blogger, won the Jelutong seat in Penang for DAP. Teresa Kok had the highest number of majority in Seputeh (where I used to stay) with a majority of 36,000 votes! These people have blogs that are being read by the people, a lot of people.

My point is, the people are now more educated at the country’s current situation through the internet, through the bloggers especially. People like Jeff Ooi really made an effort to present facts with evidence to the public.

I enjoy reading pinkpau’s entry on the election. I foresee another blogger turn politician in the making.

Change is coming guys, lets hope for a better future!

Quoting pinkpau, “IT IS A GOOD DAY!”

Toys

I just read my brother’s blog and he was talking about looking back into our lives.

As you guys might (or might not know) that I was a really big fan of Transformers. I wrote two entries on it previously on Optimus Prime and Megatron. However, the interest faded slowly and my interest has been on gadgets and computers.

When my brother was back last month, he bought an Ultimate Bumblebee. I wanted to buy one when it was launched but I wasn’t working then and money was kinda tight for me back then. Now I’ve lost interest in it.

Anyway, We spent two hours transforming the Camaro to a Bumblebee, then back to a Camaro again. It was 4am when we finished. It really brought back the good memories when we were young. We had so many toys that my mum had to limit us and not let us buy anymore. We were one of the luckier ones to have plenty of toys.

I grew out of it sooner than my brother. He still loves toys, even until today (hence the Ultimate Bumblebee). We had Ninja Turtles, Transformers, M.A.S.K., numerous Lego sets, Thunder Cats, Ghost Busters and a lot more. Then I stopped. My brother didn’t stop there, he continued playing toys/figurines like Evangelions and more Legos.

Unlike my brother, I never had passion in one hobby. Like when we first got our PlayStation, it was my birthday present. I got bored of it and only played a few games but my brother, he bought more and more games and never gets bored with it.

Then it’s the PlayStation 2. I bought one and my brother bought one in Australia. He is still playing his to this day, mine is next to my monitor collecting dust.

So the third console, I made a wise (i think) choice. I bought a Nintendo Wii for him. But I bought it 2 months earlier and played with it. After the 2 months, I got bored (expected) and I gave it to him. He was happy, I was happy.

I still like to buy toys once in a while. A few days back I bought a Ferarri. Not the real one. Shell have this thing going on where you pump RM40 of petrol and buy a Ferarri for RM8.90. I bought my all time favourite car, the Ferarri F40.

I guess I’ll never grow out of toys.

Coming back from the slight hiatus

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

I am very sorry for the hiatus in my blog.  The reason is because i sent my MacBook for servicing and I usually blog using my MacBook as Flock, the web browser I use, is integrated with my blog.  So I don’t have to log in to my blog everytime I want to post an entry.

Anyway, this is just a short update.  I’ll write more tomorrow
