News flash! This Just In…

First day at work

This entry is 2 days late, but what the heck, you guys will still read it no matter what!

Reached the office at 9am and only Jeffery was around. The work times are flexible in this company. As long as you finish your assigned task, you are free to come to work at any time.
Ken came it at about 11am and brought me to the launch of U Mobile at Berjaya Time Square Hotel. It’s my first event working in this company. I’ve held a lot of events with my previous job but I’ve never attended one. It feels good to be served by people and let the organizers worry about insufficient press kits, insufficient food, uninvited guess and late comers. All I had to do this time is to go to the venue, register my name, get the press kits+gifts and get a place to sit. No worrying.

The press kit from U Mobile is great. They gave me a t-shirt, cap, donut, dates (because of Hari Raya soon) and the nicest lanyard. According to Ken, I’ll be able to fill up my cabinet with all the free gifts by the end of the year!

Anyway, the event was fine, nothing special, but I met one of Malaysia’s most influential business man, Tan Sri Vincent Tan, boss and founder(I think) of Berjaya Group. He was standing about 2 feet away from me. I wanted to ask permission to take a picture with him but I chickened out.

Went back to the office after lunch and Ken explained the magazine’s page plans to me. He also gave me a thumbdrive. Now I don’t have to click “Cancel” to stop the antivirus software from installing itself EVERYTIME I plug it in to a Windows PC.
I finished one of the sections of the magazine that afternoon, then setup my computer. My initial computer wasn’t running as planned, something is not working and it won’t startup and we don’t have an AMD motherboard to troubleshoot. So I’m given a Shuttle PC to do my work temporarily, until my NEW computer comes in. I always wanted a Shuttle PC, now I have it. It sits nicely ON my desk, yes, it’s that small.
I will be getting a top of the line computer as I will be doing a lot of hardware reviews and games reviews, so I need the best out there. The parts will come in slowly, so I’ll just have to bear with the Shuttle, which is better than my home PC, for a while.

I felt that I’ll like this job a lot. I don’t know why, but I have a very good feeling about my job.
It’s a very hectic week as we are trying to wrap the magazine out and send it for printing, then for distribution. So I won’t be blogging as much as I used to, but I’ll try to at least update once every couple of days.

Off to review a RM2K++ VGA card, Asus EN8800 ULTRA!
