My new camera!

Friday, September 28th, 2007

My company just gave me a brand new DSLR, the Olympus E-510.  Ken has one too, the Olympus E-410.  Since I know a bit more photography (about 0.01% more) than Ken, I have the higher end one.  We are supposed to use the cameras to take event pictures and product shots.  We bought a macro lens and a flash gun with it as well.

It’s my first DSLR and I have no knowledge about using a DSLR.  I took some pictures of my birthday last night but it didn’t turn out good.  I think I need to get some books on DSLR and read some online guides to use one.

Anyway, thanks to eveyone who sent me sms and left comments on my blog, Friendster and also Facebook.  Thanks guys!

Free gifts and it’s my birthday!

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

My mum just told me that she’ll need to get a cupboard for all my free gifts if I continue to bring back all the free gifts I got at events and I have the most generous company (in terms of free gifts) as of today, Packeteer.

I attended Packeteer’s event at The Ritz Carlton Hotel today.  After registering, the PR girl gave me a bag where I got a pendrive (512MB) and this:

What kind of IT companies give out rugby balls as a door gift? But I don’t care, call me what you like, it’s a damn cool free gift ok!

The venue they chosen was spectacular, The Ritz Carlton.  The forum was only attended by 6-7 people, we got all the attention we wanted (that means have to pay attention to the speaker as well).  And each seat was prepared with a small stack of Conquer paper, the best pen I’ve used, a mineral water with a glass that is so fine that it looks like some fine bone china, and this

It’s a box of mints.  Look at the box, it looks expensive and it is very nice!

I’ll attend to ANY Packeteer events from now on!

I am attending a Dell event in Putrajaya tomorrow and the Intel event next Tuesday, where they fly me there for a 1 hour event! I am expecting Intel and Dell will top what Packeteer has done.

One day I’ll post up all the free gifts I get.  Most of them are caps (U Mobile, Nikon), shirts (U Mobile), bags (Nikon, Canon-small camera bag), lanyards (U Mobile, Nikon, Canon) , keychains (Nokia - I expected Nokia to be a bit more generous, but they disappoint me, I gave your E61i very high marks in my review…Just joking lah…It was a cool keychain!), Memory card reader (Intel), pen drive (Packeteer), Rugby Ball(Packeteer) and a bunch of super expensive and delicious food from Apple Malaysia (food from d-lish) and Nokia (food from delicious)!

Oh yeah, it’s my birthday today.  Throw me a comment at this post and wish me happy birthday so I could find out 2 things:

  • So that I would be happy!
  • So that I know how many people are reading my blog

Will be having dinner with Eileen and my friends later tonight.

Events

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

I’ve been going to a lot of events these days, I mean A LOT!

I’ve worked for exactly 1 week now and I’ve been to at least 5 events now. Being in the media is fun, the PR people treats you like god and the free gifts are amazing. I’l be going to Penang next Tuesday for a one day thing.

I am going to 2 events today, Packeteer and Nokia Concept store opening at Pavilion. I am thinking of getting a GPS device or just a GPS capable phone. To be honest, I have no sense of directions at all. These days I carry a map in my car, printing maps from the internet and doing stuff like this, just to attend the events and get free gifts.

Anyway, it’s someone’s birthday tomorrow *hint*hint*.

Wrapping up!

Monday, September 24th, 2007

I will be going for my first official outstation trip next Tuesday. It’s an event from Intel and it will be in Penang, at Intel HQ Malaysia. It will be a day trip thing.
The event is only for 1 hour. I don’t know how many of us (tech writers) were invited but isn’t it cheaper to fly the presenter (only one presenter) to KL and have the event here instead of flying so many people to Penang to listen to one presenter. Not to mention food and transportation to the airport.

Anyway, been very busy the past few days and we are hoping to wrap the magazine tomorrow, latest by Wednesday, just in time for my birthday on Thursday. Anyway, I have more or less finished my part of the magazine, it’s now the designer’s headache for laying out the articles and Ken’s job for proof reading my super broken English! Pity the two of them.

I’ll be attending an event in Putrajaya tomorrow by Intel. I hope Intel will be generous and give out good door gifts, since they could fly everyone to Penang for a 1 hour presentation and fly every one to Bankok for an event with accomodation in 5 star hotels!

Oh yeah, if I don’t blog tomorrow, I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Mooncake/Lantern/Mid-Autumn/”Whatever you call it” Festival!

Busy!

Sunday, September 23rd, 2007

My readership has dropped these few days. Is it because of my lack of updates? Sorry guys, been really busy these few days. I have a job, remember?

Anyway, I have been attending events and product launches since every day since my first day at work and I am loving the door gifts of every event.
I have also been reviewing a lot of products lately, from mobile phones to graphic cards to motherboards to printers to MP3 players. Some of these products are dreams to others, costing more than my home computer!

Anyway, I had my first encounter with an Apple iPod Touch! It was magnificant. No words could describe it and I am getting one when it is officially available in Malaysia. Apple Malaysia had a preview of the iPod Touch yesterday for invited media only. The magazine I am working for is one of them. There were only about 12 people attended the preview. Really exclusive stuff!

Head over to myMacBUZZ to see my article about the iPod.
