A little update

Wednesday, January 31st, 2007

It’s been quite some time since I last updated my blog.

My life is not as interesting as Kenny Sia or any other bloggers out there.  I’m quite a simple guy without a job.  No offence guys!

Anyway, last Saturday after class, I went to Bangsar Shopping Center for the Macfest, organized by the Malaysian Mac User Group (myMug).  They were a friendly bunch of people.  David from myMacBuzz invited me to join them.  I figured since he gave me a free pendrive during his last Christmas Giveaway, I have nothing to lose.

I learnt a lot of new stuff during Macfest.  In fact, I am using this new internet browser, Flock, it has support to a lot of web blogging sites, and Wordpress, the one I am using, is suported.  It made blogging so damn easy.

Since my blog is not a technical blog, I will not bore my readers (you know who you are) with it.  I left after two presentations, as I had something on later that night.

Anyway, I am still waiting for a reply on the interviews I went.  I hope everything goes just right.

FInally an interview that didn’t went wrong.

I went for an interview last Friday in Wisma Denmark.  It was a law firm.

The interview went alright.  The boss, Mr. Cheah, a lawyer, i think, interviewed me for more than 1 hour.  I enjoyed talking to him, making me feel at ease while passing of information is not a problem.

I hope I’ll get a reply from them soon.  I am desperate.

Interview Went Wrong…..Again!

Monday, January 22nd, 2007

Last Monday, a lady called me using a mobile number, telling me that she is from this job agency, asking me if I’m interested in a job at Kota Damansara.  I asked her to send me an email on the job’s description and the location.

She sent it to me using a Streamyx account.  I was very suspicious.  Why would a job agency call it’s candidates using a mobile phone and why wouldn’t they have a proper email address (they have their own website).  I was a bit suspicious, but I went for the interview, because I am DESPERATE!

Went to the place on Tuesday afternoon, wearing something that I have not been wearing for quite some time, my work clothes, and a tie.  I wanted to give a good impression on the inerviewer.

Went in, the Human Resource lady asked me if I was coming for the interview, and then explained that it will not be a verbal interview.  I would have to do a few tests and it will take about 2-3 hours.  Only if i passed the test, I’ll be granted a verbal interview.  I thought what kind of test takes 2-3 hours, and I am in my best attire, but there won’t be an interview? Nevermind, I am desperate, so I went for it.

While I was filling in the forms, a few people came in for the same interview, I mean tests.  They wore T-shirts and jeans.  I looked like a desperate over-dressed fella.

The lady bought all of us into a classroom-like room, then she handed out the test questions.  There were 2 sets, about 1 centimeter thick.

The first set was a personality test.  300 freaking questions.  The first 150 are “Yes/No/Not Sure” questions while the rest were objective questions.  These are some of the questions:

  • If your neighbour’s dog came over to your house and messed up your beautiful garden, would you be angry?
  • Would you complain when the food you wanted was taken off the menu in a classy restaurant?
  • Do you always sleep late at night and wake up early in the morning?

I don’t know what does all these questions got to do with IT.  I answered all anyway, because I am desperate.

The next set was a more technical test.  More on IT stuff.  100 questions.  These are some of the questions:

  • What is the correct order of the OSI Layer?
  • What network topology does the diagram show?
  • If computer A connects to the server and computer B connects to computer C which then connects to the server.  What network topology is this?

I learnt all these stuff, but how the hell am I supposed to remember it? It’s like giving you a set of question on History when you were studying in From 5, without prior notice.  They use too many abbreviated IT jargons.  I’ve never heard of 90% of it.  Or maybe I did, just not the abbreviated ones.

I think I totally flunked the tests.  I am not expecting a second interview, or a verbal interview, from them.  I know how I did on the tests.  I finished 400 questions in less than 2 hours.

So I am still hunting for a job and I am still very much DESPERATE.

On another note, I met David from myMacbuzz to claim my prize, a 1GB thumbdrive.  Now I don’t need to buy a thumbdrive.  Yay!

Interview…..Went wrong……

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

I went for an interview in Gleneagles Intan Medical Center just now. It went the other way I intended it to.

Reached there quite early, went to Liyana and Kid Fey’s office and chatted with them. When it’s time, I went to the HR department for the interview.

Two interviewers came in, asked me questions which I don’t really know how to answer. According to the guy, my answers were wrong.

During the hands on test, I switched on the computer, the POST beep was there, then I switched it off, dismantle the super hard to dismantle casing, wanted to take the hard disk out to check if the jumpers were right but I don’t know how to take the last screw out. I left it there and assume that nothing is wrong with it.

I plugged everything back in, then switched the thing on, waited for a while, then everything is fine. There is only no display, so it’s the VGA card’s problem.

If I had waited 10 more seconds during the first startup and let everything run once, I could have solved it in less the time I did. I was thinking too complicated when the problem is just so simple.

I have never been successful with my job/job interviews.

First Job
I started as a part timer, but everything I did was full time. I missed out on my annual bonus because I was only a part timer that time.

Second Job
I resigned from my first job to join this company, they closed down before I even joined them.

Third Job Interview
You know the story…

Apple iPhone

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

I HAVE to get an Apple iPhone.  It’s too nice not to get one.  The sad thing is, it’s only comming to this part of the world in 2008, and it’s just the beginning of 2007.

iPhone

I will be going to Gleneagles Intan Medical Center for a job interview tomorrow.  Wish me luck!
