November 2nd, 2006Â Â
Woke up at 4 in the morning, not because I am nervous about the interview, it’s because I’ve been living in a different time zone this past month.
Ken came to pick me up at about 8.30am, went to Phileo, met up with the rest of the “team†and started our journey to Rawang, the suburb of KL.
The “new boss†wanted to base the office in Rawang and everyone is against it.
It was a freaking 32 kilometers from Phileo Damansara to Rawang, where the “new boss†of my “new company†is situated. I didn’t know places like this existed in KL, I don’t recall the last time I see mist and mountains in my working clothes. We reached at about 9.30am.
After we got our visitor’s pass, we have to TAKE OF OUR SHOES before entering the building!! What the..nevermind…
We were all in Conference 1, where I was introduced to the rest of the team. Then the “new boss†came in, talked a bit, handed out some forms to fill out and went to the other room with the MD…
After 1 freaking hour, they came out and the “new boss†wanted to meet us one by one. I was last to go in, it was about 12.45pm and I still haven’t had my breakfast..jeez…
I went in, asked me some usual questions and I went out. The “new boss†followed me out to Conference 1 and asked us to follow him upstairs in to another room. What’s wrong with Conference 1?
In the room, he said that he is still in the process of negotiating the franchise from Germany, which means he is NOT THE BOSS…yet….(that explains the quotations above)…..Why is he asking the whole team to go interview if he is not the boss? Nevermind, it’s not that I have tons of stuff on my hands right now.
After a bit of talking, he came to the point where it matters the most, the location of the new office, IF he gets the franchise. He said things like this:
“Willey is one of the worlds largest publishing house and they deal with billions of ‘paunds’ and they are situated in Chichester, about 2 hours drive from London.â€
“Their sales people travel everywhere to get sales and it is not a problem because they plan their journey so no time is wasted.â€
“A house in PJ, KL, Damansara is about RM500k, but a semi-d in Rawang is only about RM300k.â€
“I come from Selayang and my house is only RM270k.â€
“You will find quality of life in Rawang.â€
And the one i like best is:
“Afterwards when we go out for lunch, I am not paying, you guys pay yourself, see how cheap the food here is.â€
He is talking like everyone who wants to work with him should get a property in Rawang because the cost of living is low compared to KL, quality of life is high, and Mid Valley is only 2 hours away.
Everyone fought back saying it’s hard to go to events, client’s and also hard for the clients to come over. He accepted and decided he’ll get an office in the Klang Valley, IF he gets the franchise.
According to the “new bossâ€, we will start working on 1st December 2006, IF he gets the franchise.
We went for lunch after the meeting, the “new boss†didn’t join us as he had another appointment. We had yong tau foo. It is freaking expensive, KL price, in Rawang. So much for paying ourselves. Thanks Liau for the lunch.
Went back to Phileo at about 3pm. Ken gave me a tour of the closing office.
I have to start looking for other alternatives as I am seriously broke. I’ll see how it goes. I think I can manage…..I hope…
